January 3 - Michael Turley Demonstration: Web Site Webmaster Michael Turley will
give a demonstration of the IBC web site and conduct a discussion of current and
future plans for the web site. Input from members on future additions to the site
will be solicited.
February 7 - Paul Weishaar Demonstration: Stone Slab Bonsai Planting. Paul will do
a demonstration on preparing a stone slab then planting a tree and related landscaping
on it. There will be a raffle for the stone slab bonsai at the conclusion of the
demonstration. Tickets will be available for $5 each with proceeds going to the
IBC. Observers welcome.
March 7 - Simon Feng Demonstration: Potting / Repotting Your Bonsai Simon will do
a demonstration on repotting bonsai using two of his trees (possibly a Siberian elm
and a Root- Over- Rock trident maple). Members are invited to bring in their trees
for assistance and feedback in repotting.
April 4 - Paul Weishaar Workshop: Buttonwood Bonsai This will be the first of three
workshops for the year. We have located some excellent buttonwood (all different
shapes) which have great potential for trying your skills with jin and shari. Reservations

May 2 - Simon Feng Demonstration: Pruning vs. Pinching Simon will present a demonstration
on the differences between developmental pruning, pruning, and pinching. Most of
us do not prune, but just pinch back all the time. Simon will convince us to boldly
prune away with no fear. Members are encouraged to bring their own trees and help
will be available after the demonstration.
May 19 - 20 Indianapolis Museum of Art Bonsai Exhibition Public exhibition of club
members bonsai in the Showalter Pavilion at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Hours
are 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days. Map to IMA.
June 6 -
Show Preparation We will conduct Business Meeting and then set up the exhibit
for the Garfield Park Show and sale which begins June 8. Additionally, club members
who participated in the April Buttonwood workshop are encouraged to bring in their
trees for repotting and bleaching of deadwood.
June 8 - 10 Garfield Park Bonsai Show / Sale The IBC Bonsai Show is part of a three
day event at Garfield Park which encompasses the entire park and includes a variety
of events including exhibits, roving musicians, food and drink, and a bonsai workshop
to be announced. A full schedule will be published when available. Reservations
will be required for the bonsai workshop. Hours are 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days.
June 10 Korean Hornbeam Workshop There will be a Korean Hornbeam Workshop in the Garfield
Park Conservatory Meeting Room Sunday June 10, 2001, 2 PM thru 4PM. Cost is $50 IBC
members and $75 non- IBC members. There are a few workshop spaces available. Contact

July 11 - Mike Devore Demonstration: Tropical Bonsai. Please Note: This months meeting
will be the second Wednesday of the month due to the 4th of July holiday. Mike will
present a tropical bonsai demonstration using a Brazilian Rain Tree.
August 1 - Mike Devore Workshop: Tropical Bonsai Participants will have a choice of
tropical bonsai provided by Mike on which to work. Reservations required 14 days
in advance. Cost to be announced. Observers welcome.
August 11 - Garden Tour In response to numerous requests, we are going to add to
our schedule a tour of IBC members' Bonsai Gardens for IBC club members only. Any
members wishing to have there bonsai garden added to the tour, please let the Directors
know. A schedule will be published later.
September 5 - Steve Knapp Demonstration: Species Presentation Discussion on a specific
species of bonsai and details on its care, as well as an explanation of the different
styles appropriate for the species. Members will be requested to bring their examples
of the subject species.
September 8 - Penrod Art Fair The Indianapolis Bonsai Club will participate in and
have bonsai on sale at the Penrod Art Fair at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. This
is our primary fund raising event and any member is welcome to bring bonsai and supplies
to sell. Hours are from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Map to IMA.
September 22 - November 11 -
White River Gardens Bonsai Show The White River Gardens,
part of the Indianapolis Zoological Society (the Indianapolis Zoo) has requested
that the IBC exhibit bonsai for a 6 week period. The exhibit will be shown in the
new White River Gardens Greenhouse and the IZS staff have promised extensive promotion
and publicity of the exhibit. The IZS has been in contact with the National Arboretum
in Washington, D.C. and subsequently Warren Hill, Director of the Bonsai Collection
at the Arboretum has called to discuss the show and offer some suggestions and helpful
hints. The IZS has asked also that we consider programs for some weekends. This
seems like a great opportunity to expose a large number of people to the world of
bonsai. The Club will also sponsor a bonsai sale at the Gardens on Saturday and
Sunday, September 22 and 23. Click here for a schedule of events.
October 3 - Simon Feng Demonstration: Rules of Tree Design Simon will present a program
on the rules of tree design. Subjects include branch placement, proportions, root
flare, among others. Following the program we will have club members "show and tell"
with their trees to demonstrate how the principles work, as well as why sometimes
the rules are "broken". * Membership fees are due at this time.
November 3 - November 16 -
Garfield Park Chrysanthemum / Tropical Bonsai Show Annual
show of chrysanthemum and tropical bonsai specimen at the Conservatory. Hours are
from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
November 7 - Paul Weishaar Demonstration: Displaying Your Bonsai Paul will present
on how to best display your bonsai at home and show. Club members' homes will be
visited through the year and a video will be shown on how members keep and display
their trees. Good and bad examples of bonsai in recent shows will also be shown
and discussed.
December 5 Annual Christmas dinner at the Chinese Ruby restaurant. Dead bonsai contest
and bonsai material raffle.
