2003 Calendar of Events

• January 9 -
  Deciduous vs Coniferous Bonsai
  Simon Feng will discuss the pros and cons of each as bonsai
  NOTE:  This meeting will be on THURSDAY due to the holiday schedule and other previously scheduled events at Garfield Park Conservatory!!

 

• February 5 -
  Styling Methods
  Demonstration on how to use wire, turnbuckles, and other materials to style bonsai

 

• March 5 -
  Styling Demonstration
  Simon Feng will style a collected Juniper

 

• April 2 -
   Workshop (Part 1)
  Workshop using assorted deciduous and coniferous species

 

• May 7 -
  Workshop (Part 2)
  Due to the high number of respondents for the April workshop, those not participating in the April workshop will style their bonsai in May.

 

• May -
  Indianapolis Museum of Art Bonsai Exhibition

 

Note:  The annual bonsai exhibit at IMA will not be held this year due to remodeling that will be occurring during this time.  The exhibit is scheduled to resume in 2004.

• June 4 -
   Japanese Black Pine Styling Workshop
  We have 11 excellent 2 year old field grown trees which can be worked into either formal, informal or literati styles.

 

• June 7 – IBC Member Bonsai Garden Tour

 

• June 10 thru 22 -
  IBC-
  Sponsored China Bonsai Tour
  Status of this tour is still tentative. Click here for details

 

• June 28 & 29 -
  Garfield Park Bonsai Exhibit and Sale
  The IBC Bonsai Exhibit at Garfield Park will showcase 30 to 35 trees in their early summer greenery.  Hours are 10:00 AM -
  5:00 PM both days.

 

• July 2 -
  Workshop:  Mary Madison -
  Bald Cypress
  Mary Madison will preside over a Bald Cypress workshop.

 

• July 3 thru 6 -
  MABA Convention, Cincinnati, OH

 

• August 6 -
  Workshop:  Tropical Bonsai
  Mike Devore will lead a workshop on tropical bonsai material.  Participants will have a choice of tropical bonsai material provided by Mike on which to work.  Reservations required 14 days in advance.  Cost vary based on materials desired.. Observers welcome.

 

• August 15 / 16 – Chicago Bonsai Show 

 

• September 3 -
  Styling Demonstration
  Club President Paul Weishaar will do a demonstration styling a root-
  over-
  rock bonsai.  A raffle for the tree will be held after the demonstration.

 

• September 6 -
  Penrod Art Fair
  The Indianapolis Bonsai Club will participate in and have bonsai on sale at the Penrod Art Fair at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  This is our primary fund raising event and any member is welcome to bring bonsai and supplies to sell.  Hours are from 10:00 AM -
  5:00 PM.  Map to IMA.

 

• September 20 thru November 16 -
   White River Gardens Bonsai Show
  The club will repeat its very successful show at White River Gardens Conservatory, next to the Indianapolis Zoo.  The exhibit will be shown in the White River Gardens Greenhouse.  The Club will also sponsor a bonsai sale at the Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21.  Workshops and demonstrations for the exhibition will be announced later.

 

• October 1 -
  Discussion:  Preparing Your Bonsai for Winter
  A discussion on how to prepare your bonsai for winter will be held.
  * Membership fees are due at this time.

 

• October 18 thru November 2 -
  Garfield Park Chrysanthemum and Bonsai Exhibit
  Annual show of chrysanthemum and bonsai at the Garfield Park Conservatory.  Hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

 

• November 5 -
  Styling Demonstration
  This month's meeting will be a styling demonstration on bougainvillea by John Braunsdorf and Michael Turley.

 

• December 3 -
  Annual Christmas Dinner and Meeting
  Annual Christmas dinner at the Chinese Ruby restaurant, gather starting at 6:30 PM, dinner 7:00 PM.  Dead bonsai contest and bonsai material raffle.
