2004 Calendar of Events

• January 7 -
  Bonsai Pot Auction
  Clare Bollmer and Marion Bugher will bring 175 pots, 45 books and other bonsai items to auction off to club members.  BRING $$$ !  This would be a great time to renew your membership if you didn't already. 

• February 4 -
  Ponderosa Pine Styling Demonstration, Paul Weishaar
  A Ponderosa Pine collected in the Rocky Mountains by Andy Smith will be styled by Paul Weishaar.

• March 3-
  Potting Demonstration, Simon Feng
  The correct methods to use when repotting bonsai will be demonstrated by Simon Feng using a Siberian elm .

• March 13 -
  Workshop at Garfield Park
  Beginners tropical workshop at Garfield Park.

• April 7 -
   Air-
  Layering Demonstration
  A live tree will be air layered. Members can practice air layering on the tree after the demonstration.

• April Field Trip – Air Layering for Real!
  We are locating trees which members can air layer. Date and place TBA.

• May 5 -
  Workshop:  Boxwoods
  This workshop will feature 10 year old Kingsville Boxwoods.

  Midwest Bonsai Society Spring & Flowering Bonsai, Chicago Botanic Garden

• May -
  Indianapolis Museum of Art Bonsai Exhibition

Note:  The annual bonsai exhibit at IMA will not be held this year due to remodeling that will be occurring during this time.  The exhibit is scheduled to resume in 2005.

• June 2 – BYOT* Critique
  Bring a bonsai, old, new, whatever. Members will critique and discuss each tree.

• June 11 thru 23 -
  IBC-
  Sponsored China Bonsai Tour
  This is a reschedule of the trip originally planned for 2003. but cancelled due to the SARS outbreak in China.  Status of this tour is still tentative. Click here for details

• June 26 & 27 -
  Garfield Park Bonsai Exhibit and Sale
  The IBC Bonsai Exhibit at Garfield Park will showcase 30 to 35 trees in their early summer greenery.  Hours are 10:00 AM -
  5:00 PM both days.  There will also be a beginner's workshop on the 26th, time to be announced later.

• July 7 -
  Tropical Bonsai Demonstration
  Mike Devore will present a tropical bonsai demonstration using one or more species of tropical bonsai grown in his own greenhouse.

• August 4 -
  Workshop:  Tropical Bonsai
  Mike Devore will lead a workshop on tropical bonsai material.  Participants will have a choice of tropical bonsai material provided by Mike on which to work.  Reservations required 14 days in advance.  Cost vary based on materials desired.. Observers welcome.

• September 1 -
  Annual Species Presentation
  Eric Elliott will present an in-
  depth course on Pines as Bonsai.

• September 11 -
  Penrod Art Fair
  The Indianapolis Bonsai Club will participate in and have bonsai on sale at the Penrod Art Fair at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  This is our primary fund raising event and any member is welcome to bring bonsai and supplies to sell.  Hours are from 10:00 AM -
  5:00 PM.  Map to IMA.

• September 25 thru November 14 -
   White River Gardens Bonsai Show
  The club will repeat its very successful show at White River Gardens Conservatory, next to the Indianapolis Zoo.  The exhibit will be shown in the White River Gardens Greenhouse. 
  The Club will also sponsor a bonsai sale at the Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26.  Beginner workshops are scheduled for October 5 and 26. Call (317) 630-

• October 6 -
  Discussion:  Bonsai 101
  An evening discussing care and styling of bonsai
  * Membership fees are due at this time.

  Discussion:  Overwintering Your Bonsai

• November 14 -
   White River Gardens Bonsai Show Ends

• December 1 -
  Annual Christmas Dinner and Meeting
  NOTE:  THIS DATE IS A CORRECTION OF WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED!!
  Annual Christmas dinner at the Chinese Ruby restaurant, gather starting at 6:30 PM, dinner 7:00 PM.  Dead bonsai contest and bonsai material raffle.
