Examples of Lingnan-Style Bonsai

Note how each branch on this semi-cascade Fukien Tea is like a mini-tree.  This tree spans over3 feet yet has very few branches.

This Segeratia demonstrates many similarities between Lingnan and Japanese-style Bonsai.  Note the gorgeous taper and the triangular outline.  Standing 21inches tall, it only needs 5 or 6 branches.

Note the graceful use of negative space in the twin-trunk Fukien Tea, 36 inches tall.

Another demonstration of exquisite branch structure, good use of negative space, and good balance in a lovely antique pot.

Pruning and wiring a tree has been compared to carving a work of art from stone.  The piece is already there and all that is required is to remove the unnecessary parts.  "Clip and Grow", on the other hand, involves a different process.  This growth process allows the trunk and branches of a tree, like the Bougainvillea at left, to be grown to fit into a rock.  This effect is entirely impossible to achieve with any other method.  The stone in this piece is five feet tall!  The figurine is put there to impart a sense of scale.
