Pruning and wiring a tree has been compared to carving a work of art from stone. The piece is already there and all that is required is to remove the unnecessary parts. "Clip and Grow", on the other hand, involves a different process. This growth process allows the trunk and branches of a tree, like the Bougainvillea at left, to be grown to fit into a rock. This effect is entirely impossible to achieve with any other method. The stone in this piece is five feet tall! The figurine is put there to impart a sense of scale.
