1999 Calendar of Events

  • January 6 - Paul Weishaar
    Demonstration on driftwood, jin and shari. If you are considering jin or shari on a tree, bring the tree.
  • February 3 - Rick Marsh
    What to look for in nursery stock when shopping for the materials to create bonsai.
  • March 3 - Steve Knapp
    Beginners workshop:  Shimpaku Juniper
    Reservations required 14 days in advance. $35 club members, $50 non-members, cost includes tree, pot, wire, and soil. Observers welcome.
  • April 7 - Steve Knapp
    Potting your bonsai, demonstration and workshop.  Junipers styled in March Workshop will be potted and you may bring your own tree for advice and assistance.
  • May 5 - Simon Feng
    Discussion of the Chinese "clip-and-grow" method of training bonsai.  This method is applicable to many varieties of trees.
  • May 22/23
    Public exhibition of club members bonsai at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
  • June 2 - Bob Brown
    Demonstration of cascade style bonsai. Following the demonstration, there will be a hands-on workshop using any material you bring.
  • July 7 - Paul Weishaar
    Repeat of the January demonstration on driftwood, jin and shari. If you are considering jin or shari on a tree, bring the tree.
  • August 4 - Mike Devore
    Demonstration and discussion on tropical bonsai.  Following demonstration, there will be a hands-on workshop using tropical material you bring.
  • August 28
    Annual garden tour for Indianapolis Bonsai Club members.
  • September 1 - Paul Weishaar
    Beginners workshop:  Elm Grove
    Reservations required 14 days in advance. $35 club members, $50 non-members, cost includes 5 trees (minimum), pot, wire, and soil. Observers welcome.
  • September 11
    The Indianapolis Bonsai Club will once again participate and have bonsai on sale at the Penrod Art Fair at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
  • October 6 - Simon Feng
    Presentation on Suiseki. Suiseki is the art of locating and displaying fine examples of natural stone.
  • November 3 - Rob Pugh
    Discussion on bonsai tools, their purchase, use, and care.
  • December 1
    Annual Christmas dinner at the Chinese Ruby restaurant.  Dead bonsai contest and bonsai material raffle.
